SPPG Lecture with David Siegel and Gabriel Eidelman

Leaders in the Shadows: The Leadership Qualities of Successful Municipal Chief Administrative Officers
Friday, March 6, 2015, 12:30-2:00pm

Speaker: David Siegel, Professor, Department of Political Science, Brock University
Moderator: Gabriel Eidelman, Assistant Professor, School of Public Policy and Governance, University of Toronto

In most municipalities across Canada, the top public servant is the chief administrative officer (CAO) or city manager. Compared to elected politicians, such as mayors and city councillors, the work of a CAO is often overlooked and not well understood. David Siegel’s new book, Leaders in the Shadows, brings this important work into light, providing an in-depth look at the careers of five highly successful municipal CAOs. In this presentation, Prof. Siegel will examine the traits, skills, and behaviours that have made these individuals such successful leaders.
