In 1999 IMFG Board Chair Alan Broadbent created the Mirvish Meetings, an influential two-day conference and essay collection published in 2000 about Toronto’s future, which was mentioned in Maclean’s magazine.

IMFG Fellows Zack Taylor and Alexandra Flynn highlighted the social and political consequences of Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s decision to reduce Toronto City Council seats in the Coast Reporter article entitled “How would Ontario’s plan to change Toronto politics work? An explainer.”

In the CBC News piece, “78 candidates sign up for London mayor, council race,” IMFG Fellow Zack Taylor looked at the impact of the ranked ballot system in London, Ontario’s, October 2018 mayoral race.

In the CBC News article, “Winnipeg’s mayor sees no harm in Portage and Main referendum question,” and in the CTV News Winnipeg piece, “Bowman to support motion on Portage and Main referendum,” IMFG Fellow Aaron Moore looked at the impact of campaign financing and infrastructure projects in Winnipeg, Manitoba’s, October election.

In the London Free Press article entitled, “Why are there so few city hall election candidates?”, IMFG Fellow Zack Taylor looked at the reasons citizens do not run for municipal elections, such as financial limitations and new municipal election rules.

IMFG Paper (No. 40), The Platform Economy and Regulatory Disruption: Estimating the Impact on Municipal Revenue in Toronto, by former IMFG Visiting Researcher Zachary Spicer was advertised in the July 2018 edition of Municipal World Journal.
